He's been a widely-known journalist, columnist and contributing editor for a variety of national magazines and websites since 1994. He's written numerous feature articles for Maximum PC (see "HD Camcorders Finally Arrive"), Studio Monthly, DV, Video Systems, Broadcast Engineering and Post Magazine, along with hundreds of published articles in other magazines, trade publications and websites. Charlie is active in the world of podcasting. With journalist colleague Stephen Schleicher, he's been netcasting since the medium's inception in 2005 with a professionally-produced weekly show entitled Coolness Roundup. The popular program takes listeners on a wild ride through the world of consumer electronics, gadgets, and just plain cool stuff, and has attracted a large and loyal following as well as three enthusiastic sponsors. In his 33-year career in broadcasting, his experience included directing Nightly Business Report, Star Gazer, Dollar Signs and Techno@bytes for national PBS television audiences. Charlie was Producer/Director of the hit national PBS cooking series entitled Jill Prescott's Ecole de Cuisine. In the summer of 1995, he created the PBS technology series Techno@bytes. He was also Creative Consultant for PBS's Tracks Ahead, and directed Dollar Signs, a PBS series specializing in mutual funds. White's specialty is promotional spot creation, for which he won a Chicago/Midwest Emmy Award in 1992. For more information, here's his complete resume. While beginning his television career, instead of starving Charlie was a radio announcer for classical and jazz stations in Miami and North Carolina. He was also a professional saxophonist, playing with small groups and big bands. The 12-year musical adventure included a seven-year gig with "Los Cumbiamberos," a Latino orchestra that recorded five albums, one of which was for CBS Records in 1983. Charlie's currently living an unusually happy life in a small village on the windswept prairie of the central US with his actress/model wife Denise and above-average 17-year-old daughter, Helen. Nestled between the whispering evergreens and amber waves of grain—but not too far from a major airport and fast Internet access—is the Midwest Test Facility, where Charlie delights in the evaluation and testing of the latest gadgets, consumer electronics products, and digital video equipment.
