If only the Wright Brothers could see this video. It’s a visual masterpiece, showing the beauty and grace of flight. At the same time, the video is a demonstration of the quality of high-resolution video, shot with the skilled hands of Doug Holgate, Roger Tonry and Scott Smith, all artisans of the craft of lens, light, positioning and flight.
It’s the combination of spectacular lighting, sharp digital-cinema-grade video, rock-steady stabilization — and of course, the photogenic flying machinery — that make this footage so dramatic.
The flight sequence was created by Wolfe Air, a company that’s been creating shots like this for decades. The company’s work populates action movies and airline ads, and to get these awesome shots of the highest-flying tech in the world, they are simultaneously using the most advanced video and image acquisition tech in the world:
Says Wolfe Air:
These shots were filmed in close formation with the Vectorvision camera system installed in the highly modified Wolfe Air LearJet 25. Cameras used are the Red Epic and Arriflex Alexa.
The company continues to add helicopters and even more sophisticated mounting gyros to its collection of equipment. Impressive.
